The series introduces Katzmann to 15 men who are equally committed to settle down and start a family. This is my story, but it is also the story of so many women I know. The search for the female lead was extensive, but what attracted the network to Katzmann was her authenticity, according to Rob Wade, president of alternative entertainment and specials at Fox.
Long before she knew about the show, Katzmann had already seen doctors and was ready to go to a donor to have a child herself. In order to present Katzmann with a group of potential suitors who are as serious as her when it comes to parenthood, Fox was very specific in its casting efforts. Aside from typical background checks and specific age-range search, producers had many conversations with potential contestants to ensure they had the same aspirations as Katzmann.
Focus groups and research also demonstrated the prevalence of single parents and the substantial increase in the amount of women who have decided to have a baby on their own, in recent years. Wade says they found that many men in their mid 30s and 40s are just as serious about settling down as women are.

With an hour to go and conversation running dry, we decided to download a smartphone app we kept seeing people use during our weekend away: Tinder. Suddenly the screen of my phone was inundated with an ever updating stream of male suitors: loafer-wearing Kip, 28, popping champagne on the deck of a boat pretentious—swipe left! My fingers were moving so quickly, I almost mistakenly swiped left for tall, dimpled Peter, 30, smiling from a mountaintop swipe right! I soon experienced my first Tinder high—the endorphin rush of a match.
I was hooked. Meet Matt Hicks, the year-old British environmental consultant who bears more than a passing resemblance to Britain’s Prince Harry, and was given the task of persuading 12 American girls that they were vying to date the fun-loving royal. Premiering on Tuesday, Fox’s “I Wanna Marry Harry” spins a twist on the televised dating format used most notably by ABC for “The Bachelor,” where one man is charged with finding love from a group of 25 women, honing it down to the lucky one over a series of glamorous and drama-filled dates.
Hicks, brought up in Hertfordshire, a neighboring county to London, went to Southampton University, graduating with a degree in geology and oceanography, a different path from his royal look-alike’s military career. In “I Wanna Marry Harry,” Hicks was sought by the show’s producers after being spotted on a celebrity look-alike website, and was given the ultimate makeover.

Dating game shows are television game shows that incorporate a dating system in the form of a game with clear rules. Human matchmaking is involved only in selecting the game’s contestants, who are usually selected more for the amusement value than any concern for their happiness or compatibility. The audience sees only the game; an important feature of all dating game shows is that the contestants have little or no previous knowledge of each other, and are exposed to each other only through the game, which may include viewing a photograph or at least knowing the basic criteria for participation typically participants are not already married.
There have been a number of dating shows aired on television over the years, using a variety of formats and rules. They are presented for the entertainment of the viewers. As the genre progressed, the format developed towards a reality-style show and more into a relationship show then simply finding a mate. The dating game show subgenre has its origins in the United States.
The original dating game shows were introduced by television producer Chuck Barris. The format of Barris’s first dating show, The Dating Game , which commenced in , put an unmarried man behind a screen to ask questions of three women who are potential mates, or one woman who asked questions of three men. The person behind the screen could hear their answers and voices but not see them during the gameplay, although the audience could see the contestants.
The various suitors were able to describe their rivals in uncomplimentary ways, which made the show work well as a general devolution of dignity. Questions were often obviously rigged to get ridiculous responses, or be obvious allusions to features of the participants’ private areas.
